Signature Lamps
The Signature Lamps are one-of-a-kind lighting pieces, individually hand-painted by artist Patricia Branstead in her studio.
Each lamp begins as a painting on a flat sheet of plexiglass, intuitively blending color, gesture, and movement. Patricia then draws back into the wet surface to refine and deepen the image. A thin sheet of Asian rice paper is carefully placed over the painted plate, and through a monotype printmaking process, the pigment is transferred by hand, rubbed directly into the paper.
This technique allows each image to remain spontaneous and expressive. The paper often undergoes multiple rounds of painting, printing, and layering, building depth, texture, and complexity over time.
Once complete, the artwork is formed into a cylindrical lamp, transforming the original print into a functional object. When illuminated, the paper's diffuses light softly, creating a beautiful mood and environment.
